Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi called on Tuesday to expedite the implementation of joint projects between his country and Iraq, stressing the strength of relations between the two countries in various fields.
In a statement on its website, the Iranian presidency quoted Raisi as saying in a phone call he received from Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi that "the Iranian and Iraqi peoples have common aspirations," stressing the need to speed up the implementation of joint agreements, including the railway link between the Iranian cities of Shalamcheh and the Iraqi Basra.
The statement stated that the Iranian president renewed his thanks for the invitation he received recently from Al-Kazemi to participate in the summit of the Iraqi neighboring countries in Baghdad.
For his part, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi said, "The region is facing major challenges today, and solutions need wisdom, patience and cooperation among the countries of the region."
Al-Kazemi expressed his hope to speed up the implementation of the bilateral agreements concluded between the two countries, saying that "Tehran is a real partner for Baghdad."
The Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein had presented during his visit to Tehran on the tenth of this month an official invitation to Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi to participate in the summit of neighboring countries scheduled to be held at the end of this month in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
