A spokesman for the Ministry of Planning, Abdul-Zahra Al-Hindawi, said that the cost of the general population census in the country, scheduled for 2022, is estimated at 120 billion dinars.
Al-Hindawi added that "in principle, the budget submitted by the ministry to the Council of Ministers regarding the costs of the general population census, which was approved by the Prime Minister, is estimated at 120 billion Iraqi dinars," according to "Rudaw."
He explained that "the ministry is awaiting approval of next year's budget, which includes these allocations," noting that "all matters related to the general population census are linked to approving the country's general budget for 2022."
It is noteworthy that the last population census was conducted in Iraq in 1997.
As for setting the date for conducting the general census, Al-Hindawi indicated that “the date is determined based on the budget and everything depends on it,” adding that “in principle, it will be before the end of 2022.”
Regarding the procedures that precede the conduct of the general population census, Al-Hendawi stated that “the census contains many procedures that precede its implementation, including the basic steps that must be implemented until the implementation phase of the count,” adding that “the census will be electronic, and special tablets should be provided, which are estimated The need for 100,000 devices."
He pointed out that "among the procedures that precede the general census process, training enumerators on the mechanism of conducting the census," noting that "the process needs more than 100,000 enumerators, and there is a need to establish a data processing center, secure the requirements of the process, and conduct Experiments that precede the census in a number of regions and governorates to know the obstacles that may face the process, as well as many other details that should be completed and implemented before conducting the general population census.
The Ministry of Planning has previously indicated that the population growth rate is 2.6%, and it is likely that the percentage will drop to 2% in the next few years.
According to the latest statistics of the Ministry of Planning, the population of Iraq is 40,150,200 people, of which (20,336,180) are males, and (19,784,000) are females.
The number of young people aged between 15-24 years is 8,100,000, and they constitute 20% of Iraqi society.
