, today, Wednesday, the Ministry of Agriculture counted the number of date palms in Iraq, and while referring to the export of dates to 10 countries in the world, it confirmed that it has prepared a program to eliminate the Dubas bug.
The ministry's spokesman, Hamid Al-Nayef, said that "palms were greatly affected by the wars that passed in Iraq, which led to the spread of the Dubas and Humira bug in previous periods," noting that "the Ministry prepared a program years ago to combat the Dubas bug and eliminate it by 85%, as well as Control of all insects.
He added, "The palm has recovered, and we have good production, and the door has been opened for export abroad, which has strengthened the farmers' efforts to take care of the palm, and we currently have 19 million palm trees, according to the Ministry's Statistics Department."
He pointed out that "Iraqi dates are exported to 10 countries in the world, including Egypt, the Maghreb countries, Turkey, Italy and the Netherlands."
With regard to the bulldozing of orchards, he stressed that "the bulldozing process took place during previous periods, as a result of the presence of orchards near cities," stressing that "the ministry has filed many cases against the bulldozers, and they are continuing, and there is a law that prohibits bulldozing orchards."
