The Union of Iraqi Jurists revealed, on Wednesday, that the abolition of the offices of the inspectors general contributed to an increase of corruption by 100 percent in government departments and institutions, stressing that it was a wrong step, according to the official Al-Sabah newspaper.
"The House of Representatives made a grave mistake by abolishing the offices of the inspectors general, which served as a bulwark to prevent the commission of many violations in ministries and agencies," said Union President Muhammad Noman al-Dawoodi, stressing that "the presence of the general inspector was a deterrent to corruption and the corrupt."
Al-Dawoody added, "The Integrity Commission relied entirely on those offices for administrative investigation and for submitting recommendations and information that reached it, noting that its abolition was a wrong and unforgivable step, and no party in the ministries and institutions could play the role that the offices of the inspectors general used to play, Especially since it had broad powers to inspect, investigate and prevent any cases of corruption.
He pointed out that "the aforementioned offices contributed to recovering a lot of money, while their cancellation contributed to an increase in corruption by 100 percent."
