    The number of Arab asylum seekers in the European Union increased last year, amid economic and political crises in a number of Arab countries.

    These applications were double the number registered in 2020, when only 64,540 asylum applications were registered, which is the lowest level since 2014. In 2015,

    more than 371,000 asylum applications were submitted by Syrian citizens, the highest number of requests was not registered at all.

    Interestingly, 94% of Syrian asylum seekers were accepted, marking the highest rate of accepted applications at the Arab and international levels.
