An informed political source confirmed today, Friday, that Iraq is on a date with holding elections 5 times in just two years.
The source told Al-Mutala' agency, "The Elections Commission is preparing to hold provincial council elections at the end of this year, on December 18, and it will be followed during the year 2024 by holding parliamentary elections."
He added, "The Federal Election Commission will also supervise the holding of local and parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan region, and it is likely that they will be held next year as well."
He pointed out, "Parliament is preparing to legislate the Federation Council law, and the mechanism for selecting its members takes place through elections, and in the event that the law is legislated, the elections for the Federation Council will be held during the year 2025."
The Legal Committee in the House of Representatives had confirmed that more than 12 million citizens did not update their data or receive their electoral cards.
A member of the committee, the independent deputy, Muhammad Anouz, said in a previous statement to "Al-Mutala" agency, that "his committee hosted officials of the Election Commission, and it was found that about two million complete voter cards were not received by their owners, and that nearly 10 million voters did not update their data until now, in addition to nearly a million and 800,000 people born in 2004 and 2005 have reached the age of participation in the elections.
Anouz added, "This is a real problem, and these people are unaware of the importance of participating in the elections and contributing to determining their fate."
He explained, "The commission faces many obstacles, as well as problems related to printing voter cards and other technical matters."
