    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Monday (July 24, 2023), the researcher in Kurdish political affairs, Hiwa Muhammad, considered that the residents of the Kurdistan region will "abandon" the upcoming elections.
Muhammad told "Baghdad Today" that "the Kurdish citizen has a reaction from the elections, because of the number of problems he suffers from in the economic and service aspects, the delay in paying salaries and the failure of the ruling class."
He added, "Those in charge of updating voter records are mostly supporters of parties that have begun to mobilize their masses."
Muhammad pointed out that "the percentage of boycotts in the upcoming elections, whether for the provincial councils or the Parliament of Kurdistan, will rise to a very large extent."
It is noteworthy that Kurdish forces are trying to run in the local elections (provincial councils), which are scheduled to be held on December 18, with one list in cities and regions outside the Kurdistan region, most notably the Kirkuk governorate, north of Baghdad.
The new election law, which was approved by the Iraqi parliament on March 27, adopts the single-circuit system within the "Saint-Lego" mechanism, which is a mathematical calculation method followed in the distribution of voter votes, which makes the fortunes of large political entities escalate at the expense of individual candidates and emerging and small entities, which prompts these entities to seek to gather and form large alliances to ensure victory.
