The head of the Association of Travel and Tourism Companies, Haider Al-Dujaili, said: “The closure and fine procedures included only 2 percent of the fake and unlicensed companies, which still exist until now,” noting that “there are approximately” 450-500 fake and unlicensed tourism companies that exist. In the country, according to statistics prepared by the Association, and the authorities did not take legal measures against only a very few of them, as these campaigns were limited to the capital, Baghdad, which is represented by referring the violators to the judiciary to be fined an amount of 500 thousand dinars and release them to resume their work, while there are companies that do not Inspection committees reach them because they are in remote areas.”
Al-Dujaili added, in an interview with "Al-Sabah", that "these companies carry out their work by setting up trips for Hajj and Umrah and transporting travelers randomly without obtaining official approvals," noting that "most of the contacts that these companies make to coordinate tourist trips are with external and internal parties that are not Information".
Al-Dujaili called for "activating a new law that fines violators of the tourism companies' registration law at an amount of 5 million dinars, and in the event of a repeat violation, he will be punished with imprisonment for a period of six months or a year," pointing out that "the tourist season this year bodes well after the companies began preparing for programs and foreign trips if The completion of the exam season to increase the demand for travel.
He explained that "Georgia was opened as a new tourist destination for Iraqis, but the demand for it is still weak because its visa takes between 10-15 days."
The head of the Association of Travel and Tourism Companies expects that "the state will tend to maximize the resources of the current budget by imposing fees and taxes on companies' work at a time when the tourism sector has reached about 50% of the recovery movement that was before the Corona pandemic."
Regarding the entry visa to Turkey, Al-Dujaili said: "The issue has become commercial and has become harassing the Iraqi traveler after the visa fees rose to about $150, with other details accompanying obtaining it, after it was only $50."
