{Local: Al-Furat News} A spokesman for the Ministry of Planning, Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi, announced that the economic and social survey in all governorates of Iraq, including the governorates of the Kurdistan region, will be launched this July, noting that unemployment rates have clearly declined, perhaps to less than 14%.
Al-Hindawi said in a press statement, "The economic and social survey in all governorates of Iraq, including the governorates of the Kurdistan region, will be launched in the month of July."
He added that the survey "will provide us with important indicators about poverty, the poverty line, the focus and depth of poverty, in addition to other indicators about unemployment, its concentration and proportions in the governorates, in addition to other indicators about health, education, housing, income and spending of the Iraqi family, and as a result it will provide us with an important database that will represent an important entry point." To prepare the strategy for the third paragraph, which the ministry is working on preparing during the next five years, in addition to the five-year national development plans for the next five years.
As for the general population census, Al-Hindawi noted that after approving the 2023 budget, which included financial allocations of 100 billion Iraqi dinars, of which 12 billion are for the Kurdistan Region, "we will work this year to complete the infrastructure for the general population census, and in the next year 2024 there will be other allocations." to complete the rest of the requirements.
He added, "We hope that the year 2024 will be the year of implementing the general population census, perhaps in October of next year, as the decision to set the date for implementing the census depends on the Supreme Commission for the Census, which will include all regions of Iraq without exception."
In the context, he noted that the survey conducted at the end of 2021 was "affected by the conditions of the Corona pandemic, which affected the high rates of unemployment and poverty throughout the country, but our expectations during 2022-2023 are that Iraq witnessed many changes and they were positive in general."
He explained, "Unemployment rates have declined clearly, according to our belief, and may reach below 14% or less than that, but we do not want to get ahead of events and talk with speculation before the results of the economic and social survey of the family in Iraq, which will start its activities in the middle of this month, as it (the survey) will give us indicators." reported unemployment more accurately than these forecasts.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Planning indicated that "unemployment rates are higher for men as a result of the prevailing social conditions in Iraq, where women still face obstacles to obtaining job opportunities. countries of the region.
As for the illiteracy rate, according to al-Hindawi, "it has decreased and ranges from 10 to 12%, and it is high for women, reaching about 30%, compared to 11% for males."
