    Economy News - Baghdad
The Ministry of Electricity has monitored 14,419 government buildings that lack electric meters.
The head of the quality management department in the ministry, rapporteur of the national initiative team to support renewable energy and reduce the volume of emissions, Shaima Mazharvi, said in an interview with "Al-Sabah" that was seen by Al-Iqtisad News: "One of the goals of the initiative team is to determine the size of the electric energy losses after conducting the inspections of government buildings, as part of the plan that was prepared to confront the climate changes that the country is suffering from."
She indicated that 14,419 government buildings were monitored that do not have electric meters or are out of order, indicating that determining the volume of lost or wasted electricity contributes to saving energy that areas suffer from interruptions, whether in the capital or the governorates, in addition to reducing the volume of emissions issued by electric generators, whether governmental or private, especially since the gases emitted from them are among the most prominent air pollutants.
Mazhar pointed out that the team, in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, launched an electronic form through the (UR) platform that enables the entity or department that does not have a meter to submit an electronic application through the platform to be installed by the concerned companies.
She stated that 7 thousand electric meters were installed during the last period, noting that the team is working through the plan that was prepared during 2022 and will be implemented in 2023 to achieve important achievements in this aspect, especially after the Prime Minister directed the expansion of the work of the national initiative to include all government institutions, the private sector and other sectors because of their important role in implementing the requirements of the government program in order to face climate change and support renewable energy.
It is noteworthy that the ministry monitored during the past year 2022 a waste of about 64 percent of the electrical energy that is equipped with government institutions and homes in Baghdad and the provinces.
