Experts: Developing electronic automation will limit smuggling operations

Economists believe that implementing the automation system will contribute to reducing tax evasion and help control the entry and exit of goods and control their value.
Economic expert Safwan Qusay said, “Iraq is trying to implement a comprehensive electronic system not only for airports, given that the Ministry of Finance has included an integrated financial administrative system within the 2023 budget. This system will transfer the movement of goods entering the country from border ports, whether air, sea, or land, to an integrated system that shows us The goods that will enter Iraqi territory, their value, and the mechanism of financial transactions.” Qusay added in an interview with “Al-Sabah” that “the automation system will reduce the chances of corrupt people to change the gender of the goods or manipulate their value in order to evade customs, and the entire electronic process will contribute to reducing manipulation, and it is a financial system.” It is also compatible with the goods system so that we have an integrated financial description for all types of goods entering Iraqi territory from all airports.”He pointed out that "the application of this system will move Iraq to the digital economy and increase investment opportunities within the borders of the airport, especially since the International Finance Corporation is looking to rehabilitate Baghdad Airport to be consistent with international requirements and provide opportunities for investors to deal with services within the borders of the airport accurately and quickly in a way that is compatible with the environment."
