The Ministry of Construction and Housing revealed the details of the 15 new residential cities, and while it confirmed the country’s need for more than three million housing units, it indicated that Unit prices in these cities will be subsidized.
The official spokesman for the Ministry of Construction and Housing, Nabil Al-Saffar, said in an interview, “The new residential cities project is part of the new strategy adopted by the government to build residential cities instead of complexes, given that the residential complexes do not cover the actual existing need, whether they are investment complexes, which have become ridiculously expensive.” It is so large that a simple citizen cannot buy a housing unit, or through the complexes built by the Ministry of Construction and Housing through the Housing Department, which are simple complexes that provide hundreds of housing units, and the country’s current need is more than three million housing units.” He added, “Therefore, this trend is towards preparing new lands outside the city centers in order to reduce the pressure on existing services inside the city centers, and also how to attract investors and developers in these places after preparing these lands.” He pointed out that “the old basic problem that exists is the issue of secreting and appropriating these lands.” Therefore, a committee was formed headed by the Minister of Construction and Housing, in cooperation with the governorates, and the Prime Minister instructed all governorates to prepare the lands and assign them to municipal institutions in cooperation with the Ministries of Agriculture and Finance in accordance with the law. Indeed, this was done and we have four cities in which the requirements for land preparation were completed and were referred to developers and investors, one of which is a city. Al-Jawahiri, whose foundation stone was laid a few days ago, and we have the city of Al-Ghazlani in Mosul for which the foundation stone will be laid, as well as the city of the banks of Karbala in Holy Karbala and the city of Al-Jinan in Hilla, and some other cities in the governorates will follow during this year. He revealed that “the government program has identified 15 cities to be launched as cities.” We prepared basic preliminary designs for more than twenty cities and launched five of them, declaring them as investment opportunities. Four of them succeeded, and only one city remained in Ramadi,” adding, “Any governor who can prepare the lands will be presented to the New Cities Authority, which is one of the bodies that was created recently specifically.” For this matter.” He stated, “These cities are sustainable according to environmental and cultural standards that take into account the use of insulating materials for construction, the presence of green spaces and water bodies, and take into account all modern methods.” He stressed, “We have started the Jeweler City and its foundation stone has been laid, and the completion period will be three years and three cities.” The foundation stone will soon be laid.” He stated, “All the prices that we have set in the form of the contract with these developers are not to speculate on prices, as the prices will be according to what exists in the prevailing market and not like the prices of the currently existing complexes,” stressing that “they will be supported and there is a vision for the state to create Formulas for financing and loans to citizens for the purpose of giving them the ability to purchase housing units.”[/size]
