The parliamentary majority of the Sunni component of the Resolve, Sovereignty and Decisive Alliances confirmed, on Saturday, to proceed with the election of a president for the Iraqi Council of Representatives, away from the procedures of the Federal Court regarding the case raised regarding the previous president’s election session, calling for the inclusion of the election clause in the next session. .[/size]
[size=45]The parliamentary majority of the Sunni component of the (Resolve, Sovereignty, and Decisive) coalitions said in a statement, “The parliamentary majority of representatives of the Sunni component, represented by the Resolve, Sovereignty, and Decisive Alliance, the Mass Party, and representatives of the National Contract of the Sunni component and independent representatives, and in the presence of a number of political leaders, met this evening, Saturday, in Baghdad.” To discuss the constitutional entitlement related to the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives.”[/size]

[size=45]On the evening of Saturday, January 13, the House of Representatives held an extraordinary session to choose the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the first round of voting ended with the victory of the “Taqaddum” Party, Shaalan Al-Karim, with 152 votes out of 314 votes, followed by Representative Salem Al-Issawi with 97 votes, and Representative Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani received 48 votes, Representative Amer Abdul-Jabbar received 6 votes, and Representative Talal Al-Zubaie received one vote. However, verbal altercations occurred inside the Council hall, forcing the Council Presidency to adjourn the session until further notice, and no other session was held until the preparation of this report.[/size]
[size=45]However, the next day, January 14, the two representatives, Youssef Al-Kalabi and Falih Al-Khazali, filed a lawsuit with the Federal Court that included a request to issue a state order to stop the election session until the case was resolved, due to suspicions of paying bribes to some representatives in order to vote for candidates for the Presidency of the Council.[/size]
[size=45]A judicial source announced last Tuesday that the Federal Supreme Court decided to postpone the decision on the claim of canceling the session to elect the President of the Iraqi Parliament until the beginning of next April.[/size]
[size=45]On the 17th of last January, the Federal Integrity Commission announced its launch of investigations into allegations of bribery offers to representatives to vote in favor of a specific candidate for the presidency of the Iraqi Council of Representatives.[/size]
