    Baghdad today - Sulaymaniyah
Former member of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament, Ahmed Dabban, confirmed today, Sunday (May 12, 2024), that the region is considered an environment that repels youth and immigration still exists .
In an interview with "Baghdad Today", Dabban said, "The Kurdish young man's dream is still to immigrate to Europe, and there are thousands of cases of immigration annually to European countries, and this confirms the absence of aspects of the life that young people aspire to."
He added, "The factors behind the increase in immigration have reasons, the most important of which is the indifference of the power parties to providing the appropriate environment for young people, including job opportunities, a decent life, and good education."
He stated that “the infringement on personal and public freedoms is also one of the reasons that led to an increase in the migration of young people, and the lack of specific and strategic programs to provide them with a decent life, all of which are factors that made young people take many risks, including the risk of drowning in the sea and exposing their lives to other risks in order to dream of a decent life.” .
While the number of Kurdish immigrants to Europe in 2021 reached more than 28 thousand immigrants, the number decreased in 2023 to less than 20 thousand immigrants, according to specialized organizations.
Attempts to immigrate after 2015 from the Kurdistan region due to security events, then the recurring economic crises in Kurdistan, and the suppression of freedoms, especially those affecting journalists, caused the death of dozens of people as a result of drowning or difficult and bad conditions during illegal immigration attempts.
Attempts at illegal immigration and the great demand for it have led to the emergence of professional human smugglers, dangerous figures wanted in Europe on charges of smuggling people and causing their deaths.
