Japan's Nikkei rose to a two-year high supported by a bullish outlook for the global economy, although gains narrowed by the end of trading as the yen gained against the dollar.

Japan's Despellay Corp posted the biggest market move, boosted by a report that the company has developed heavy production methods for low-cost OLED displays.

The Nikkei closed 0.06 percent higher at 2,0626.66 points on Wednesday after touching 20689.05 points, a level not seen since August 2015.

The broader TOPIX index closed flat at 1,684.56 points, after rising to 1,688.59 points, also a record high since August 2015.

Stocks received support from Wall Street, with all three indexes closing at record highs overnight.

Data released this week showed that corporate sentiment in Japan hit its highest level in 10 years, while a gauge measuring US manufacturing activity rose to a 13-1 / 2 year high in September.

Displayley rose 29 percent after the Nikkei economic daily reported that the company had developed a heavy production method for low-cost OLED screens and would start in 2019.
