Nikkei climbs due to cover short positions amid caution ahead of the inauguration of Trump

Japanese stocks rose at the close of trading on Friday as investors cover their positions the city, but gains were limited trading volumes low and with continued caution in the market before the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump.
The Nikkei index of Japanese shares 0.3 percent to close at 19,137.91 points. Over the week, the index fell 0.8 percent.
It rose broader Topix index 0.4 percent to 1533.46 points, with a circulation of only 1.79 billion shares of stock listed on it compared with an average circulation of 2.06 billion shares in the last thirty days.
Jah.ba.aks Nikkei-400 index climbed 0.4 percent to end the day at 13747.11 points.
