The United Nations Security Council has approved the appointment of former Danish officer Michael Lawlessard to replace the head of the UN observer mission in Yemen, former Dutch general Patrick Camart, according to diplomatic sources.
None of the 15 Security Council members objected to the appointment, which UN Secretary-General Antonio Gutierrez had proposed on Monday, one source told AFP.
According to diplomats, Kamart's relations were tense with both the Huthi rebels and the British UN envoy Martin Griffith.
The Camart convoy was attacked on January 17 with no injuries, and the United Nations said it did not know the source of the shooting.
General Lollesgaard led the UN mission in Mali between 2000 and 2016, before becoming NATO's military representative in NATO and the European Union.
Born in 1960, he was a military adviser to his country at the United Nations in New York and served in peacekeeping missions in Iraq and Bosnia.
