The US government recorded a budget deficit of $ 8 billion in June, according to data released by the Treasury Department on Thursday.
Analysts polled by Reuters had expected a deficit of $ 6.35 billion.
The Treasury Department said federal spending in June was $ 342 billion, down 12 percent from the same month last year, while revenue rose 6 percent to $ 334 billion.
The deficit for the first nine months of the current fiscal year was $ 747 billion compared to $ 607 billion in the same period last fiscal year.
