    [rtl]The US Treasury Department reported that the government recorded a budget deficit of $ 108 billion in August, compared with a deficit of $ 107 billion in the same month last year.[/rtl]
     
    [rtl]Economists polled by Reuters had expected Treasury to announce a deficit of $ 119.5 billion last month.[/rtl]
     
    [rtl]The deficit in the current fiscal year to the end of August was $ 674 billion, up from $ 619 billion in the same period in fiscal year 2016, and the fiscal year begins in the United States on October 1, the Treasury said in its monthly budget statement.[/rtl]
     
    [rtl]Total revenue last month was $ 226 billion, down 2 percent from a year earlier, while spending fell 1 percent to $ 334 billion.[/rtl]
