    Baghdad today - Karbala
The Iraqi Exhibitions Company, affiliated with the Ministry of Commerce, is accused of committing a “fraud” against the government committees that visit the liquid sugar factory in Karbala Governorate to see its reality, as it brings the committees into the factory’s warehouses and hides the machines it contains, to produce reports stating that the factory is of no use, so that the company can dismantle it. And exploiting his land and distributing it as residential plots for its employees from Baghdad Governorate and housing them in Karbala, or benefiting from it and selling it.
The representative of Karbala Governorate, Zuhair Shahid Al-Fatlawi, said today, Tuesday (September 26, 2023), in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that the Iraqi Exhibitions Company is trying to change the facts regarding the liquid sugar factory it owns in Karbala with the aim of granting it to its employees as residential land, despite the possibility Rehabilitate it or turn it into an international exhibition.”

Al-Fatlawi said, “There are attempts by the Iraqi Exhibitions Company to cancel the liquid sugar canning factory in the Hindiyah District (20 km east of the city center of Karbala), and to break up its land, convert it to housing, and give it to its employees from Baghdad Governorate.”
He stated that "this factory and its machines have been owned by the private sector since the years before 2003, and its land is owned by the Ministry of Industry and its area is (30) dunums," noting that "in 2011, the ownership of the land was transferred to the Ministry of Commerce and (25) dunums of it were allocated to the Iraqi Exhibitions Company and (5) Dunams for the General Company for Dates Stores, without knowing the mechanism and reasons for that transfer.”
Al-Fatlawi added, “The Iraqi Exhibitions Company is working to camouflage the committees that visit the factory, and bring them into its warehouses only, not the machine halls, to prepare reports to the ministry that it contains nothing and is not fit for work,” noting that “the factory had lines for producing date molasses and glucose sugar.” And vinegar and tomato paste, and it stopped working before 2003, but it still contains large machines, generators, and huge electrical transformers.”
Al-Fatlawi revealed, “We sent a letter to the Prime Minister’s Office containing all the details of the file, and we asked to stop the process of canceling the factory and converting it to an industrial type,” stressing that “it is possible to rehabilitate the factory and put it into service, or convert it to an environmentally friendly one, or create an exhibition on it similar to an exhibition.” Baghdad International Airport will be used and its land will not be converted into housing, which is a waste of state resources.”
