Minister: Iraq is open to investing in the green economy worth $100 billion

The Iraqi Minister of Environment, Nizar Amedi, confirmed the country's openness to investment in a sustainable green economy with a transformation value of up to 100 billion dollars until the year 2035, stressing the importance of supporting Iraq's ambition to shift towards this type of economy and attract foreign investments.
During his participation in the Arab Ministerial Meeting, the Minister called for “the importance of concerted national and international efforts and joint coordination, and providing the required budgets, whether from international or national funds, to ensure a high-level implementation of the Ministry of Environment’s strategies, priorities, and projects planned with various national and international bodies to shift towards a sustainable green economy and address... to the effects of climate change.”
He pointed out that the Iraqi government has placed the issue of environment, climate and water among the most important priorities on its agenda, and efforts are continuing from all sectors to confront this problem and lay the necessary foundations for adaptation.
The Minister noted that “the Ministry of Environment has completed a new environment strategy for the period from 2023-2030, which is a general strategy for the country that aims to improve the environment, and takes into account the real challenges in the region resulting from the effects of climate and water scarcity, and the necessity of a gradual transition to a green economy, which is considered a supportive economy.” Our current economy is built on fossil fuels.
Amedi continued to say, “The Ministry of Environment is leading the issue of the green economy, and Iraq’s openness to investment in this aspect, with a transfer value of up to 100 billion dollars to the years 2030 and 2035, and allocating some of the necessary budgets in the national budget to support this trend, which aims to improve the environment in Iraq, and encourage the adoption of a billion-dollar project to start and stimulate comprehensive environmental improvement and a green economy in the country.”
