    Economy News - Baghdad
The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity reported, on Thursday, that it reviewed with the Gulf Interconnection Authority the stages of completion of work on the Wafra-Al-Faw line in the south of the country.
The Ministry stated in a statement received by Al-Eqtisad News that the Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadel, received in his office a high-ranking delegation from the Gulf Interconnection Authority, headed by Mohammed Al-Sheikh, Executive Vice President of the Authority.
According to the statement, the stages of completion of work on the (Wafra-Faw) line and the implementation of the sections of the connecting lines within the State of Kuwait, all the way to the Al-Faw area in southern Iraq, were reviewed.
The Minister stressed the importance of electrical interconnection with the Gulf countries as a promising step towards achieving energy stability in Iraq, indicating that this cooperation between Iraq and its brothers in the Gulf countries enhances our ability to meet the needs of citizens and stimulate sustainable development in the electricity sector.
For its part, the delegation of the Gulf Interconnection Authority expressed its gratitude for the great interest of the Iraqi government and the Ministry of Electricity in overcoming all obstacles and facilitating the requirements for completing the work, including issuing the sovereign guarantee for electrical interconnection projects, according to the media office of the Minister of Electricity.
The Electricity and Energy Committee in the Iraqi Parliament confirms that the connection with the Gulf states will end in late 2024.
In the middle of this year, the Saudi Minister of Energy, Abdulaziz bin Salman, announced the start of implementation of the electrical interconnection project between the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Iraq. While he stated that this project is a “dream” that has become a reality, he confirmed that the direct Saudi-Iraqi electrical interconnection project will add 1,000 liters of electricity to its initial capacity.
