Representative immigration: Weak services hinder voluntary return

The Parliamentary Migration and Community Reconciliation Committee attributed the lack of conviction of families living in displacement camps to voluntary return to the absence of services in their original areas of residence.
Committee member Sharif Suleiman explained to Al-Sabah that there has been follow-up on the return plan since its launch last January, as the committee noticed the lack of confidence and complete conviction of families living in displacement camps to voluntarily return to their original areas.
He added that the return plan was implemented weakly, and therefore it needs the intervention of higher authorities to solve its problems, in light of the hot weather in the displacement camps.
He noted that the reluctance of families living in the Kurdistan Region camps to voluntarily return is due to the poor services in the liberated areas because most of their areas are still uninhabitable.
In the same context, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Migration and Displacement, Ali Abbas Jahagir, told Al-Sabah that the ministry is proceeding with implementing the voluntary return plan in a manner that is consistent with the capabilities available to it, stressing the registration of many displaced families wishing to voluntarily return to their original areas of residence.
He pointed out that the ministry has prepared plans to rehabilitate returning youth in coordination with local governments and relevant authorities in the liberated areas, including preparing programs to include them in sports projects in order to develop their skills and hone their talents.
