MP for the Coordination Framework, Mohammed Al-Ziyadi, confirmed on Monday that Parliament is determined to decide the presidency of the Council through a numerical majority, noting that any candidate who obtains two-thirds of the votes will be the Speaker of Parliament, in light of the absence of a Sunni agreement on a unified figure.
Al-Ziyadi said, "The political parties within the Sunni house have not reached an implicit agreement regarding ending their crisis and deciding the position of the Speaker of the House of Representatives in the new legislative session."
He added, "The Sunni component still has not agreed among its parties on a specific person to head the council, and therefore the House of Representatives will proceed with choosing the new president by achieving a numerical majority for any candidate who receives the highest number of votes."
He explained that "any candidate who gets two-thirds of the votes will get the position of Speaker of Parliament, and it is likely that candidate Salem Al-Issawi will get the majority of votes to be Speaker of the Council." End 25N
