Member of the Foreign Relations Committee in the House of Representatives, Haider Al-Salami, confirmed today, Tuesday, that the mechanism followed to select ambassadors violates the "Foreign Service Law."

Al-Salami said in an interview with Sumarya News, "The mechanism followed in selecting ambassadors is flawed by a violation of the Foreign Service Law, specifically Article 9/Third, as this article allows the appointment of ambassadors from outside the diplomatic corps not exceeding 25%, while the current practice is 50% for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and 50% for the political blocs within Parliament."

Regarding the mechanism for selecting ambassadors, he pointed out that "the Prime Minister formed a committee from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and 3 members from the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee to consider all those qualified to be nominated for appointment as ambassadors." Al-

Salami added that "there is a set of criteria, calculated based on specific points, and thus a group of about 80 ambassadors is screened and selected, after which they go to the Accountability and Justice Commission, and work is still ongoing." Al-

Salami explained that "the list of ambassadors' names currently being circulated is inaccurate, as work is ongoing until now and no official list has been issued by the committee tasked with selecting ambassadors."

He noted that "the country needs 80 ambassadors, and on this basis there will be 40 ambassadors from the diplomatic corps and 40 candidates from the political blocs in the House of Representatives," noting that "there will be a reserve group for emergency cases."

Al-Salami stressed that "a long time is needed to resolve this issue, especially since the blocs within the House of Representatives have begun to think about the issue of the upcoming elections."
