    Economy News - Baghdad
[rtl]Today, Wednesday, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Iraq, Nasir Mammadov, counted the value of trade exchange between Baghdad and Baku, while pointing out that 187 Iraqi companies were registered in Azerbaijan.[/rtl]
[rtl]Mammadov said in an article reviewed by "Al-Eqtisad News" that "the Republic of Azerbaijan attaches special importance to developing relations and expanding cooperation in various fields with the Republic of Iraq, with which it is historically linked by cultural and religious roots," noting that "there are historical friendly relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Iraq, which include relations in the fields of economy, energy, investment, tourism, construction, science, education, and culture."[/rtl]
[rtl]He added, "The presence of the President of Iraq at the twenty-ninth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change COP29, which will be held in Baku on November 12-13, 2024, is a clear embodiment of Iraq's support and cooperation in the field of climate."[/rtl]
[rtl]He continued: "In the near future, the upcoming official visit of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to Azerbaijan, at the invitation of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, will contribute to enriching cooperation between the two countries with new content and strengthening our partnership."[/rtl]
[rtl]The Azerbaijani ambassador said, "The visits of the Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan, Rashad Nabiyev, in December 2023, and the Minister of Economy, Mikail Jabbarov, in March 2024, to Iraq were fruitful in identifying the possibilities of cooperation between the two countries in various fields."[/rtl]
[rtl]He stressed that "Azerbaijan is interested in investing in the energy, infrastructure, food industries, agriculture, transportation, and construction sectors in Iraq," noting that "187 Iraqi companies are registered in Azerbaijan."[/rtl]
[rtl]Regarding the trade volume between the two countries, Mammadov explained that “the trade volume between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Iraq amounted to 236 million US dollars in 2014, but this figure has witnessed a sharp decline in recent years, especially during the “COVID-19” pandemic, reaching 29 million dollars in 2022, and 20 million dollars in 2023. However, trade between the two countries in the months from January to July of this year witnessed a 49% increase compared to the same period of the previous year.”[/rtl]
