    Baghdad/
With the arrival of winter at its peak, Baghdad and a number of governorates witnessed a noticeable decline in the hours of electricity supply, while the Ministry of Electricity attributed the cause of the crisis to the decline in Iranian gas supplies to power stations. Activists said on their pages on social media that the electricity crisis reached its peak with the onset of winter and this has become a common occurrence every year, noting that the justifications put forward by the Ministry of Electricity are unconvincing in light of the large financial allocations allocated to this sector. Activists called on the government to find quick and effective solutions to the electricity crisis. For its part, the Ministry of Electricity said that the Iranian gas stoppage will continue for 15 days, while indicating that a maneuver was conducted on the quantities of Iranian gas paid to the southern region, which showed that the stoppage of Iranian gas due to maintenance caused the system to lose 6,000 megawatts. The spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Musa, explained that “the power stations are still affected by the stoppage of imported Iranian gas, and the system is losing more than 6,000 megawatts as a result of the stoppage of this gas,” noting that “there are maintenance works that will continue for 15 days inside Iranian territory and then it will return to pumping gas in the required quantities, and after completing maintenance, the gas will rise gradually.” He pointed out that “there was a two-week gas stoppage in Baghdad Governorate and the governorates of the Middle Euphrates and the central region, which in turn determined the loads of the stations and stopped generating units in other production stations, which affected the hours of electricity supply,” explaining that “a maneuver was conducted with the quantities of gas paid to the southern region from the imported Iranian gas, which amounted to 7 million cubic meters out of 25 million cubic meters.” He continued: “The quantities of gas paid for Baghdad Governorate specifically were diverted to two units in the Bismayah station and it was operated on national gas, but we are still affected by the decline and cessation of gas release by the Iranian side,” indicating that “we are closely following up with the Iranians to re-launch the gas and we are working according to the decisions and directives of the Prime Minister to increase the highest coordination with the Ministry of Oil.” Moussa stressed that “the Ministry of Oil is trying hard to compensate for the lost gas with Caswell at the very least in the ruling stations and the Bismayah station,” adding that “there is an attempt to overcome this crisis with hours of electricity supply until the gas is gradually pumped again after Maintenance work is complete.[/size]
