Baghdad / Taha Hussein / Wafaa Amer
disclosed the Ministry of Agriculture for the arrival of Iraq to self - sufficiency in the production of local fish stage, while the suspended renewal of licenses to the docks mud for fish breeding, emphasizing coordination with the security authorities for backfilling and closure of the waterway by and compel their owners to adopt farming Cages or CSS system.
"Iraq has reached a state of self-sufficiency with the production of local fish," said Dr. Hussein Ali Saud, the ministry's adviser on animal husbandry. "This is achieved through the adoption of several measures taken by his ministry, including the adoption of floating cage culture instead of mud lakes."
He said that fish culture in mud ponds consumes large amounts of water, while floating cages keep the soil from damage and increase salinity. Floating cages are also characterized by low food consumption and shortening of breeding time, which called on the ministry to oblige fish breeders to adopt them.
Saud pointed out that his ministry is carrying out its plan to reap the local fish farms: Al-Qattan, Al-Bunni and Al-Shaboot through the artificial reduction of one million fish and the launch of them in water reserves, the most important of which are the Redwaniya and Essaouira lakes. To implement the project aimed at returning it to the Iraqi environment, stressing the urgent need for protected areas of water to be launched widely.
He called on the Ministry of Interior and the Baghdad Operations Command to fill these lakes and close the watercourse in cooperation with the Ministry of Water Resources and compel them to adopt cage culture. Or the CSS system, confirming the filling up of dozens of mud docks
    so far.
The ministry's adviser on animal husbandry said that his ministry also adopted the experiment of fish culture in the closed system, pointing out that it imported from China and Europe samples of fish raised on that system and offered it in the Department of Agricultural Extension to transfer the experiment and develop, noting in the same matter that it requires only a hall Small tubs with oxygen and water filters to raise the fish to give proper weight during a very short period.
