Baghdad witnessed the holding of the first scientific conference to achieve the goals of sustainable development, sponsored by the Non-Governmental Organizations Department of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.
Director of the Non-Governmental Organizations Department at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, Ashraf Al-Dahan, told Al-Sabah: “Sustainable development is a right for all humanity and aims to eradicate unemployment and poverty, as the government has sought during the past period to increase appointments and open the way for the private sector to hire graduates of both sexes, and allocate salaries for poor families.
In turn, the conference chairperson, Dr. Sondos Hamid Ahmed, told Al-Sabah that the world is moving towards sustainable development in terms of reducing emissions, managing pollution and using clean energy.
She added that the conference received the attention of the NGOs Department in the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and the cooperation of the Ministries of Planning, Agriculture and Environment and the Municipality of Baghdad.
She added that the number of papers submitted to the conference was 75, 30 of which were selected, and the contributions were from Iraq, Jordan, America, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt and others, pointing to the cooperation of organizations with government institutions to achieve the goals of sustainable development and participation in achieving them through awareness campaigns in schools and the introduction of the topic of environmental protection in curricula and field Combating desertification and conserving resources.
As for the supervisor of the Department of Social Studies at the House of Wisdom, Dr. Khalil Ibrahim Rasool, he mentioned to "Al-Sabah" that the sustainable development goals are divided into 17 goals, seeking to achieve important paragraphs in economic growth and social progress, and the United Nations, in cooperation with the governments of the world, proceeded to follow up on working with these goals as an extension. to the year 2030.
He explained that civil society organizations sought to contribute to the achievement of goals and the development of plans and programs of action, despite the many challenges, including relief for the displaced, treatment of society from the effects of war, and the endeavor to highlight human rights.
He added that the Department of Social Studies at the House of Wisdom will hold an international scientific conference on September 27, in cooperation with the International Labor Organization, the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, international and Arab universities and research centers for the purpose of reaching human security and sustainable development scientifically and humanly in Iraq and the Arab world.
For her part, the head of the Department of Sustainable Development at the Ministry of Planning, Dr. Aseel Adel, told Al-Sabah: The ministry is working on preparing plans, drawing policies, paying attention to the file of sustainable development, and facing challenges in order to build an integrated society that knows its rights and duties.
