Parliamentary Committee: Suspicions of corruption in the file of the European ban on our planes

The Parliamentary Transport Committee revealed suspicions of corruption related to the continuation of the European ban on Iraqi Airways aircraft, while the Ministry of Transport formed a committee to implement the requirements of the European Aviation Safety Agency in an attempt to end this file.
Member of the committee, Representative Zahra Al-Bajari, told Al-Sabah: The committee did not record any concrete positive step in the file of lifting the European air embargo. Iraqi Airways will be the beneficiary of it instead of those companies.
She added that (transit) achieves great support for the national economy if benefited from it, noting that the committee called on the airlines on more than one occasion to open new international and Arab lines, stations and destinations and activate the (transit) service, as it will achieve an economic return for the company that adopts the self-financing system. .
Al-Bajari indicated that there is continuous follow-up by the committee and communication with the aviation authority, airlines and navigation company for the purpose of implementing the requirements of safety clauses approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency, pointing out that all contracts for the purchase of old aircraft have been activated recently, as part of them do not conform to the specifications and the other part Engine failures have been recorded.
In turn, the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Transport, Shatha Radi, told Al-Sabah: There is a continuous movement and meetings related to the European air embargo file on Iraqi Airways planes.
She explained that the Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhibis Al-Saadawi, formed a committee headed by him and the membership of the advanced owners, specialists and representatives of (Boeing) for the purpose of obtaining the operator’s certificate, and thus complying with the air safety requirements that would contribute to lifting the ban.
And she added that there are continuous development plans by the Ministry, intensifying field visits to airlines, and holding meetings with the advanced owners to find out the most important obstacles and problems facing the work, in addition to following up the work of the catering department and providing meals to travelers, as well as the process of taking off and landing flights on time, and recruiting staff. Airline workers in training courses to develop their skills.
Radi stated that Iraqi Airways currently owns 39 aircraft of international origin and has contracts with (Airbus) and (Boeing), where the contract with (Airbus) includes the purchase of five aircraft, four of which have been received, and the remaining one is one, while the contract with (Airbus) Boeing), the company received four planes, and during the next two days, Iraqi Airways will receive two Boeing 737 Max 8 planes, while the last period witnessed the arrival of the Dreamliner 787 and its joining the air fleet.
