    Information / Bagdad...
A member of the Parliamentary Agricultural Committee, Hussein Mardan, revealed, on Saturday, a parliamentary approach to raise the budget for modern agriculture in Iraq to one trillion dinars.

In an interview with Al-Maalouma, Mardan said, "The reality of agriculture in Iraq faces great and painful challenges, and the current conditions require supporting a rapid and systematic transition to the principle of modern agriculture by strategically changing irrigation patterns nationwide and resorting to mobile and fixed sprinklers with government support."

He added, "There are efforts being made by the Parliamentary Agriculture and Water Committee to raise the budget for financing the sprinkler purchase program with its various addresses to assign farmers a trillion dinars in its qualitative transition to an important sector that represents an important part of food security in the country."
He pointed out that "supporting agriculture is an absolute priority, and changing irrigation patterns is an important part that achieves positive results in 3 directions, most notably reducing the waste of available water and achieving economic feasibility in production, in addition to the possibility of expanding the agricultural map through very limited water."
Iraq is suffering from a decline in its waters, with Turkey reducing the shares of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in the past months.
