- "TRADE IS ORGANIZING A CONFERENCE FOR THE PRIVATE SECTOR EARLY NEXT YEAR / "2024" The Ministry of Commerce intends to hold a conference for the Iraqi private sector in the United States of America early next year. The ministry’s official spokesman, Muthanna Jabbar said, that "the Ministry’s Foreign Economic Relations Department is working to hold a conference for the Iraqi private sector in Washington early next year, with the aim of enabling it to obtain agencies from American companies, as well as increasing the volume of trade exchange between them, the two countries." For his part, the researcher in economic affairs, Dr. Ali Daadoush, called on the Ministry of Commerce to develop a clear trade policy to clarify the role of the public and private sectors before determining the conference’s agenda and goals. In an interview, Daadoush added that the policy of trade openness after 2003 caused the entry of counterfeit or adulterated goods and products into the Iraqi market, which directly affected the Iraqi consumer, calling for controlling those goods that invaded the local markets, by tightly monitoring border crossings and the standardization and quality control department, then moving towards agreement with international agencies. ......
- [6:04 AM]He pointed out that these agencies of foreign companies deal with patents and intellectual property rights to protect their products in accordance with their own laws, and they most likely impose penalties on violators under the umbrella of the terms of the World Trade Organization, specifically the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights and its provisions. Daadoush considered organizing internal procedures the beginning to attract all international agencies, adding that increasing trade exchange requires a production base that meets local demand and then exports the surplus abroad. He pointed out that Iraq has not really moved to diversify exports yet, wondering how Iraq is working to increase trade exchange with the United States when it only exports crude oil, and some of its products have decreased significantly over the past month?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DISCUSSES THE LATEST REQUIREMENTS FOR IRAQ'S ACCESSION TO THE WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION" On Tuesday, the Parliamentary Economy, Industry and Trade Committee discussed with the Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization the requirements for Iraq to join the World Trade Organization. The media office of the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee, Representative Ahmed Salim Al-Kinani, said in a statement that the committee hosted the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the World Trade Organization, His Excellency Ambassador Saqr Al-Muqbel, the Commercial Attaché at the Saudi Embassy, the Director General of Relations in the Iraqi Ministry of Commerce, Mr. Riyad Al-Hashemi, and the Assistant Director General of Foreign Relations in the Ministry. Trade, indicating that the committee discussed with the Saudi delegation the requirements for Iraq’s accession to the World Trade Organization, most notably the approval of the intellectual property law, which is one of the conditions for joining the organization. The head of the parliamentary committee, Representative Ahmed Salim Al-Kinani, confirmed that Iraq has been striving hard since 2006 to join the World Trade Organization in order to raise the level of the economy in the country and transform it within international standards, ""pointing out that Iraq has completed all the requirements for joining the World Trade Organization in 2023"", and only legislation remains, Intellectual property law in order for Iraq to take its membership in the global organization and transform trade for exports and imports within internationally approved standards and quality conditions. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Riyadh renews its support for Baghdad's accession to the World Trade Organization and reveals free facilities in Arar

Mawazine News - Baghdad The Saudi commercial attaché in Baghdad, Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al-Hammad, renewed on Tuesday his country’s support for Iraq’s accession to the World Trade Organization, noting the provision of free facilities provided by Saudi Arabia in the trade exchange arena at the Arar port. Al-Hammad said in a statement received by Mawazine News: “The Kingdom welcomes and supports Iraqi industries in Saudi markets and provides free facilities in the trade exchange arena at the Arar border port,” indicating “its endeavor to file Iraq’s accession to the World Trade Organization.” He added, "Soon the Kingdom will organize an exhibition for Iraqi industries in cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Trade." Al-Hamid called on Iraqi businessmen to “visit Saudi factories and see the quality of products and choose what suits them for the Iraqi markets,” stressing that “the Kingdom welcomes Iraqi businessmen to visit the Kingdom and meet with Saudi companies to discuss purchasing products and re-exporting from the Kingdom to Iraqi markets.” He continued, “ Saudi products top the confidence and satisfaction of the Iraqi consumer, and this is what distinguishes us,” pointing out that “Saudi products conform to international specifications and standards.” The Saudi commercial attaché thanked the Iraqi government for their cooperation in resolving the challenges that help raise the value of trade exchange between the two brotherly countries. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The amount of data out on the accession of Iraq to the WTO is a no brainer, imo. They have been working on this like they were on steroids. I am not buying it that we are waiting on legislation to any negtiave degree. They could have that ready for signatures already in place, etc.. The main focus is they will need their REER for trade exchange into the international arena.. That is likely already determined at this level of where they are. This is what five articles in the last few days on the matter? Yep, real close anyway. I like it and the completed all the requirements Let that sink in... ~ MM | |
