    Today, Saturday (January 20, 2024), economic expert Hakar Muhammad acknowledged the difficulty of boycotting Turkish and Iranian goods in the region’s markets.
    Muhammad said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “Kurdistan markets, specifically in Sulaymaniyah, depend on 70% of Iranian products, and boycotting goods will raise prices, as the price of a layer of table eggs, for example, will rise to at least 10 thousand dinars.”
    He added, "Boycotting goods, whether Turkish or Iranian, is an important step to deter violations and violations of Iraq's sovereignty, but from an economic standpoint, its harm will be greater for citizens, especially those with limited income."
    Muhammad stated, “Kurdistan does not yet have the capacity to meet the need for agricultural and industrial products, and even Iraqi products are not covered, and therefore prices will rise significantly.”
    Following the Iranian missile attacks on Erbil last week, Kurdish organizations called for launching a campaign to boycott Iranian goods, as well as Turkish goods.”
    The Turkish forces stationed in the regions of northern Iraq announce from time to time the implementation of military operations and air strikes in the regions of Sulaymaniyah, Erbil, and Dohuk.
    Turkey is the largest exporter of food, household, cosmetics, and other supplies to Iraq, with an annual value of more than eight billion dollars.
    The boycott is led by Kurds from different segments of the Kurdistan region, which is the main outlet for Turkish goods to all of Iraq.
    To make this campaign a success, volunteers are distributing leaflets in the markets of Sulaymaniyah, the second largest city in the Kurdistan region, to invite citizens and appeal to vendors to stop dealing and selling Turkish products.
