    Today, Monday (February 19, 2024), member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee and representative of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Nermin Maarouf, proposed amending the budget to end the suffering of employees in the Kurdistan region.
    Marouf told "Baghdad Today", "In the tripartite budget law that was approved last year, a share of 12.67% of the total actual spending of the federal government was allocated to the Kurdistan region."
    She added, "The funds delivered to the region under the term 'actual spending' are not sufficient to pay the salaries of employees, as happened last year, when the Kurdistan government was unable to pay the salaries of employees in full and there was savings for three months. Therefore, the government resorted to borrowing in order to distribute the salaries of its employees." The solution is to vote on amending the budget law, which will solve the salary crisis completely, while sending the monthly amounts is a temporary measure.”
    The former Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, Fadel Nabi, confirmed on Thursday (February 8, 2024) that the amount sent from Baghdad to Erbil, amounting to 618 billion dinars, is not enough to pay employees’ salaries.
    Nabi said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that, “If 618 billion dinars are collected with internal revenues from customs revenues, taxes, etc., it will be enough to distribute salaries among employees, retirees only, and the rest of the segments.” 
    He warned, "All services will stop in the region and the ministries will not be able to carry out their work, because the sectors of education, health, electricity, and others need funds to sustain their work." 
    He added, "The amount sent is very small, and the region's share of the budget from monthly salaries is 775 billion dinars, and 96 billion dinars are added to it for retirement, so the full share becomes approximately 870 billion dinars, but no commitment has been made to this matter."
    It is hoped that the payments of 618 billion dinars per month to the Kurdistan Region will continue during this year, with the imminent start of implementation of the new budget. On the other hand, the Kurdistan Democratic Party provided an explanation for the number of “618” and its difference from the 700 billion dinars that were paid to the region for 3 months at the end of last year.
    On (February 3, 2024), former member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Ahmed Haj Rashid, confirmed that the federal government will continue to send an amount of 618 billion dinars to the Kurdistan region during this year.
    Haj Rashid told "Baghdad Today", "The amount of 618 billion dinars is allocated for employees' salaries on a monthly basis, but with conditions." 
    He stated, “The Federal Ministry of Finance has a set of conditions for agreeing to send this amount, including sending the balance of payments and complete employee data, as well as other conditions.” 
    Rashid pointed out, “This amount will be sent monthly after paying the salaries of employees in the Iraqi governorates, and thus this matter will alleviate the economic crisis in the Kurdistan region, and you will be able to pay the salaries of employees after completing the amount from other revenues that it has.”
