[size=45]The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee confirmed that the date for hosting the negotiating committee to remove foreign forces from Iraq will be during the next week.[/size]
[size=45]Committee member Waad al-Qaddo said, “Removing foreign forces from Iraq is a priority for the country’s national security and is one of the most important files that concern public opinion,” pointing out that “the government formed a supreme committee for negotiations in order to determine the paths and timing of the withdrawal according to specific mechanisms.”[/size]
[size=45]He added, “The Parliamentary Security Committee has set next week as a date to host the Negotiations Committee in order to obtain three answers to important questions, which are the start date of the withdrawal, its mechanisms, time limits, and what are the terms of the final agreement, stressing the need for members of the House of Representatives to be constantly informed of developments.”[/size]
[size=45]Al-Qaddo pointed out that “hosting will clarify many important matters about this file, which we see as the beginning of the end of the phase of violations committed by those forces by targeting the headquarters of the security forces and the fall of dozens of martyrs and wounded in the past months.”[/size]
[size=45]Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani said last Thursday evening, “The government asked the international coalition to fight ISIS to end its mission in Iraq, in light of the readiness and efficiency of the Iraqi security services.”[/size]
[size=45]Prior to that, Yahya Rasoul, spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, announced last Sunday that the Iraqi Supreme Military Committee had resumed its meetings in Baghdad with the international coalition forces “to assess the military situation and the level of danger and set a timetable for a gradual reduction that would end the mission of the coalition forces in the country.”[/size]
[size=45]He stated that, based on these meetings, a timetable will be formulated for a deliberate and gradual reduction, leading to the end of the mission of the international coalition forces to fight ISIS and the transition to a bilateral relationship.[/size]
[size=45]On January 25, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced that the meetings of the working group of the US-Iraqi Supreme Military Committee formed between the two countries would begin discussing the future of the US military presence there.[/size]
[size=45]The Supreme Military Committee is a continuation of the path that the two parties committed to, during the joint security cooperation dialogue between the United States and Iraq, which was held in Washington on the seventh and eighth of August 2023, according to the US Department of Defense.[/size]
[size=45]Recently, demands have escalated in Iraq to end the mission of the international coalition and withdraw American forces from the country, following exchanges of strikes between these forces and Iraqi factions, against the backdrop of a devastating war waged by Israel with American support in the Gaza Strip since the seventh of last October.[/size]
