Trade: There is no increase in food prices in the markets

The Ministry of Commerce denied that food prices increased during the month of Ramadan, explaining that the rise only affected red meat products.
The Ministry has completed its preparations to distribute two Ramadan food baskets during the current week among citizens included in the food basket in one batch, starting with the poorest areas.
Director General of the Department of Planning and Follow-up in the Ministry, Talib Hassan Neama, told Al-Sabah that measures had been taken to reduce the prices of red meat during the past three days, by directing the Prime Minister to import livestock from some countries, confirming at the same time the pumping of basic foodstuffs into marketing outlets. With competitive prices, such as table eggs, chicken meat, red meat and other foodstuffs.
He pointed out that the Ministry urged increasing marketing outlets and equipping them with various foodstuffs, in order to stabilize the local market, and also called on the private sector to play its role in maintaining food security, noting the launch of a monitoring campaign in coordination with the Organized Crime Directorate in the Ministry of Interior to follow up on food prices in markets. Baghdad and the governorates, in order to prevent price manipulators during the holy month, calling on citizens to inform the ministry via the department’s website or the media website of the minister’s office to determine the violation and take deterrent measures against violators.
