    Baghdad today - Baghdad 
    Representative Mudar Al-Karawi confirmed today, Tuesday (April 16, 2024), that Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani is working to adapt the 2011 strategic agreement and the inactive provisions it contains, to suit his government program to reformulate the economy in Iraq.
    Al-Karawi said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “Sudani’s strategy is based on the concept of reformulating the Iraqi economy by distancing it from the principle of a rentier economy that depends up to 94% on oil revenues, which places it in front of strategic risks that threaten its stability in the face of any crises in the country.” The oil market, as happened in recent years.
    He added, "Al-Sudani began adopting a map to reformulate the concept of the national economy and push strongly towards openness to development investments by creating partnerships with several countries, including America, through the strategic agreement signed in 2011, which includes many points that have not been implemented . "
    He pointed out that "attracting international investments in five vital sectors in Iraq is among the priorities of the Sudanese agenda in Washington by intensifying the dimensions of gas investment and other wealth, developing the banking sector, reviving major industrial complexes, in addition to pumping investments into the energy file in general."
    He explained that "a large part of Iraq's problems are economic, and creating job opportunities is a priority, especially with an unemployment rate of up to 30% accompanied by alarming rates of poverty." 
    Al-Sudani headed a large delegation of 130 people to Washington the day before yesterday, Saturday, on a 6-day visit, during which he will meet with US President Joe Biden, in addition to secondary meetings for members of the delegation with many American figures and companies in the health, energy, financial and banking sectors, and to sign memorandums of understanding, in an attempt to From Sudanese to the shift in the relationship between Baghdad and Washington to paths beyond the security and military partnership.
    Yesterday, Monday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani met with US President Joseph Biden at the White House in Washington, DC .
    Al-Sudani said during a televised interview, according to what was reported by the official channel, followed by “Baghdad Al-Youm”: “We are working to move from the military relationship to a full partnership with the United States, and our visit to Washington comes at a sensitive and delicate time, and has importance in the history of the relationship between the two countries .  ”
    He added, "The war against ISIS was the basis of cooperation between Iraq and the United States, and our victory over the terrorist organization is important and was achieved through the sacrifices of Iraqis and the support of friends .  "
    Al-Sudani stressed, “Iraq is in the process of recovery and is witnessing development in service projects,” noting, “We will discuss sustainable partnership on the basis of the strategic framework agreement .  ”
    He stressed: “We will adhere to the outcomes of the Supreme Coordination Committee between Iraq and the United States,” and said: “My government is serious about implementing this agreement .  ”
    Al-Sudani explained: “My presence in Washington brings with it the desire to advance the reality of Iraq and provide services, and we are committed to various issues, especially what is happening in the region .  ”
    He said, "We agree on the principles of international law, and we reject any attack on civilians, especially children and women .  "
    The Prime Minister added, "We are very concerned about stopping the devastating war in Gaza, and we hope that all parties concerned will adhere to restraint and we want to stop the expansion of the conflict in the region .  "
    Al-Sudani pledged to “commit to protecting diplomatic missions, and working to move from a military relationship to a full partnership with the United States .  ”
     For his part, US President Joe Biden said: “We are committed to protecting the interests of America and its partners in the region, including Iraq .  ”
    He added: "We are determined to avoid the expansion of the conflict in the Middle East."
