    Information / Baghdad ..
The US Senate has failed to pass legislation reaffirming US support for allies in the Middle East, including a measure to punish Americans who boycott Israel because of an internal political row that led to a partial closure of the federal government.
The Senate voted 56 to 44 for the "Strengthening of US Security in the Middle East," but less than 60 votes needed to pass.
Most Senate Democrats have vowed to block all legislation in the House until a bill to end the closure is voted on, criticizing President Donald Trump's Republican colleagues for backing his request for $ 5.7 billion to fund a wall on the border with Mexico before the government reopens.
Republicans, most of them in the Senate, increased to 53 in the November election, but still need at least seven pro-Democrats to pass the law. Ending / 25

The US Senate has rejected a draft resolution by Democrats to tighten sanctions on Syria and its allies, Russia and Iran, in protest at the continued partial closure of the government.

The Democrats' attempt to pass their bill came as part of their pledge to block all Senate legislation until a vote on a bill to end the closure, criticizing President Donald Trump's Republican backers for $ 5.7 billion in funding for the wall.

The draft sanctions impose restrictions on Russia and Iran for their military support and aid to Damascus.

It also requires the closure of assets and assets of entities and individuals in the United States that are linked to the Syrian government, prohibits the issuance of entry visas, and penalizes those supplying Damascus with oil derivatives and aircraft spare parts.

Such sanctions shall be imposed if any "foreign person with military status, volunteer or engaged in hostilities on Syrian territory" enters into force.
