{International: Al Furat News} Last night, the Mexican authorities announced the death of 4 people and the injury of 2 others, by gunfire that occurred in the capital, Mexico, in front of the presidential palace.
Local officials reported that the accident started when a person entered an apartment building on a small street several steps away from the National Palace of Mexico, from which the country’s headquarters is located, and tried to urinate in an inner courtyard, while residents of the house sought to prevent him from doing so.
Officials said that the man then took out a pistol, and began shooting at those in the building and its yard, and wounded 5 people, while dozens of police units rushed to the site of the accident and one of its members managed to eliminate the attacker, while 3 of the wounded died from their wounds.
Mexican television showed video footage, showing about 100 police, who arrived at the site and imposed a security cordon around it.
This accident occurred at a time when the area was crowded with tourists, and residents on the street, according to the Associated Press, said that it was absolutely unsafe despite being directly in front of the presidential palace.
The current Mexican President, Manuel Lopes Obrador, who took power in the country a year ago and moved to the National Palace of Mexico after having turned the former Presidential Palace of Los Pinos into a museum, was on an external visit during the accident.
