    Economy News - Baghdad
On Saturday, the Ministry of Oil revealed current and future projects to produce gas and stop burning it in order to meet the local need, while setting a date for producing associated gas from the Halfaya field.
The Director General of the Technical Department of the Ministry of Oil, Ali Ward Hammoud, said, "The associated gas investment works currently under construction include projects in the Maysan and Halfaya fields with a production capacity of 300 cubic meters, in addition to the Nasiriyah fields with a capacity of 200 cubic meters."
He added, "The Halfaya field will start producing gas next year and will provide quantities for electric power stations," pointing out that "the total quantities currently produced in Iraq do not exceed 2,800 cubic meters, which is not enough to meet the local need that the Ministry of Electricity is working to reach, estimated at 35." thousand megawatts.
He pointed out, "There are future plans to invest in the Akkas and Mansouriya gas fields, which would help Iraq, with its existing production and projects, to dispense with imported gas."
He stressed, "Iraq is currently producing gas through the North, Basra and South gas companies, and there are plans to stop burning gas in the oil fields and investing it."
He pointed out that "the ministries of oil and electricity are negotiating to import associated gas from Qatar and Turkmenistan in specific quantities to support the total local need."
