The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee affirmed its refusal to consolidate the US military presence in Iraq by attempting to establish a new US base in Iraq.
“The American talk about establishing a military base in Iraq is one-sided,” committee member Waad al-Quddo said in a press interview seen by Taqaddam.
The deputy revealed the existence of "an American desire to consolidate its presence in Iraq," explaining that "the Iraqis reject the existence of a new American base on their lands."
He pointed out that "the process of building foreign bases on Iraqi soil can only take place after an agreement with Iraq," stressing that "Iraq does not need serious American bases."
Al-Quddo noted that "there is a desire and aspiration to end the American presence in Iraq, and not to establish new bases."
