The Kurdistan Democratic Party in the first comment: Yesterday’s federal decisions violate the constitution

The Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party held a meeting headed by its leader, Masoud Barzani, and published a statement about the latest developments in Iraq and the region, most notably the Federal Court decisions issued yesterday.
Text of the statement:
The Political Bureau of our Kurdistan Democratic Party held a meeting on Thursday, February 22, 2024, headed by President Barzani, and one of the topics of the meeting was to discuss the decisions of the Federal Court issued on Wednesday, February 21 of this year.
These decisions contradict the spirit of the Constitution, the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region, the principles of federalism, and the principle of separation of powers stipulated in the Iraqi Constitution.
In this regard, the Political Bureau of our party emphasizes the following points:
1. Defending the rights of sects and supporting their participation in constitutional institutions.
2. Our party supports the Kurdistan Regional Government to continue its negotiations with the Iraqi federal government regarding the region’s financial entitlements within the framework of the constitution.
3. The decision regarding Election Law No. 1 of 1992 and amending some of its provisions is contrary to the Constitution and the nature of the separation of powers.
