Amna Zikri, a member of the political bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, said yesterday, Thursday, April 4, 2024, that the Democratic Party will not abide by the decisions of the Federal Court, stressing that the court seeks to impose itself on all state institutions, in addition to creating a dictatorial regime.
Zakri said: “About two years ago, the Kurdistan Democratic Party was constantly calling for holding Kurdistan Parliament elections on the scheduled date, but the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan was refusing to hold them due to a group of internal problems within the party.”
A member of the political bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party indicated that “the Kurdistan Democratic Party has supported the four decrees issued by the President of the Kurdistan Region regarding the elections.”
Zakri explained, “The Kurdistan Democratic Party stressed the necessity of holding elections, to enable legal institutions to perform their duties and roles.”
She stressed that “the Federal Court’s decisions are political in nature and are considered a violation of the Constitution, and therefore the Democratic Party has serious reservations about them, especially with the issuance of 11 decisions against the Kurdistan Region so far, in addition to the fact that they have replaced all other institutions in Iraq.”
She stressed that “the Kurdistan Democratic Party will not abide by the decisions of the Federal Court, because the court seeks to impose itself on all state institutions, in addition to creating a dictatorial regime.”
Amna Zikri said, “The federal government and those in power do not respect the agreements they signed with the Kurdistan Region on a number of issues.”
She added, "The Kurdistan Democratic Party sent several delegations to Baghdad to discuss its concerns, especially with the coordination framework."
Regarding holding the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections, the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party explained that “the Democratic Party has many observations, and therefore it will not participate in the elections, but rather it has some preconditions.”
She added, “The Kurdistan Democratic Party seeks to hold the elections according to the will of the people of Kurdistan, and in this case, the party will respect the will of the people in the Kurdistan Region even if it wins only (10) seats.”
She confirmed that “they have evidence proving the existence of external interference in the Kurdistan Parliament elections if they were held under the current regime,” stressing that “they will provide evidence at the appropriate time.”
She concluded by saying: “According to that system, the seats in the Kurdistan Parliament were divided in advance between political forces and parties,” stressing that “an external scenario sought to impose that will on the Kurdistan Region, and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan was aware of it and participated in it.”
