    Economy News - Baghdad
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani confirmed today, Sunday, that the Iraqi-Turkish connection is a strategic option for energy in the future, while he indicated the date for completing the Gulf electrical connection.
Al-Sudani said, during the opening of the Iraqi-Turkish electricity linkage project, "We appreciate the efforts made by the Ministry of Electricity crews, especially those working in the General Company for Electricity Transmission/Northern Region, in completing this project that has been stalled since 2004, after it was completed through continuous work in constructing secondary stations, transmission lines, and understandings with the Turkish side."
Al-Sudani pointed out, "The importance of establishing a connection that extends to the Turkish network, and from there to the European side, which is a strategic option for future energy, and comes within the vision of the government program for connection with neighboring countries, in preparation for connection before the end of this year with the Gulf Electricity Interconnection Authority, so that Iraq can complete its communication with the regional energy system in a way that allows for diversity and exchange in various conditions of peak electrical loads."
For his part, the Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadhil, said during the opening: “The (Iraqi-Turkish) electricity interconnection project supplies the northern region, and supplies the central region with 300 megawatts.”
It is noteworthy that the project included the construction of the Kask transformer station (400 kV), and the use of ultra-fine thermal wires for the first time in the construction of the 115 km long line, as well as extending the (132 kV) line to Tal Afar, and installing voltage stabilization capacitors.
The line will allow the transfer of 300 megawatts from Turkey to Iraq to supply the governorates of Nineveh, Salah al-Din, and Kirkuk during increased loads.
