The European Union announced today that "a pro-Syrian organization working in Iraq and Syria is taking large amounts of money." "We need to continue our efforts in an effort to stop this," he said.

"We need to revisit the terrorist financing file and put pressure on a fugitive on the ground in Iraq and Syria," EU Security Commissioner Julian King told a news conference in Brussels.

"We have to be vigilant because there may be a high risk of new sources of funding for terrorism and we have to prepare for that and see what we need to do to strengthen measures to combat it," he said.

At the press conference, the European Commissioner reviewed the measures taken since 2016 to strengthen security on the EU's external borders, improve information exchange among member states, tighten the screws on "terrorists" and combat extremism.

"The 28-nation bloc is working to review the mechanisms of action and the role that can be done to tackle the financing of terrorism," he said. "Work is just beginning."
