[ltr]Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said on Saturday that the Arab group would seek universal recognition of the Palestinian state in response to US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and transfer it to the US embassy.[/ltr]
[ltr]This came during a joint press conference held by Safadi with Secretary General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Abul Gheit in Amman, Jordan, at the conclusion of the meeting of the Arab Ministerial Committee in charge of the follow-up to the US decision.[/ltr]
[ltr]Safadi said: "We have confirmed today to continue to engage with the international community to demonstrate the American decision and gravity and to emphasize its illegality, and that this engagement should be specific demands to recognize the Palestinian state on the 67 borders with Jerusalem as its capital."[/ltr]
[ltr]"There was a political decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. We will now seek a global decision to recognize the Palestinian state," he said, adding that political and legal measures are being pursued to limit the US decision and Israeli actions in the occupied territories.[/ltr]
[ltr]Safadi stressed that the Arab positions are consistent and consistent on the move against the American decision on Jerusalem.[/ltr]
[ltr]He stressed that "there is no security, stability and security in the region without a solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of the fourth of June 1967 and East Jerusalem as its capital."[/ltr]
[ltr]The Arab Ministerial Committee includes the Foreign Ministers of: Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Morocco.[/ltr]
[ltr]Trump announced in early December Washington's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and ordered the transfer of the US Embassy to it, which sparked Arab and Islamic anger and aroused even the wrath of Washington's Western allies.[/ltr]
[ltr]The Arabs submitted a draft resolution condemning Trump's move in the UN Security Council, but it was vetoed. Later in December, the UN General Assembly voted in favor of a resolution overwhelmingly rejecting the US resolution.[/ltr]
