The Ministry of Electricity (MoE) said on Monday it was not in its power to extinguish the debts owed by citizens over the payment of electricity consumption.

"The ministry has adopted a plan in all its departments in Baghdad and the provinces is to pay part of the payment of debts owed by citizens and be in the form of monthly installments," said the spokesman of the Ministry of Electricity Musab al-Mudar.

The teacher added that "the ministry did not cover the financial debts owed by citizens," stressing that "it was frozen at the present time with previous follow-up to track its debts."

He pointed out that "the citizen who submitted a request earlier to pay installments of the debts incurred in monthly installments, is under way," stressing "not to stop receiving these amounts."
