US Vice President Mike Bens said Thursday that the United States and its allies were peacefully seeking to dismantle North Korea's nuclear program and ease the suffering of its people, but reiterated that all options were on the table.
"America stands with its ally South Korea," he said in a speech to US troops at Japan's Yokota Air Base.
His speech came before he went to Pyongchang to attend the opening of the Winter Olympic Games on Friday.
Pens arrived in Japan, Tuesday, to meet Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Bens will attend the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, which will also be attended by two senior officials of North Korea, said Wednesday that Washington will soon impose the most severe sanctions ever on Pyongyang.
