The Economic Committee in the House of Representatives, on Thursday, that the loans granted to Iraq at the Kuwait International Conference for the reconstruction of Iraq, amounting to about 27 billion dollars, will weigh the "burden" on the budget.
Najeeb Najib, a member of the committee, told Mawazine News that "the Iraqi government received, yesterday, during the donor conference held in Kuwait on amounts in the form of investments and loans."
"As for investments, Iraq is suffering from a long period of its inability to attract foreign investment inside Iraq, and this is a good opportunity to start from them," Najib said.
She explained that "the party that expressed willingness to invest in Iraq is to determine where to invest," asserting that "these amounts will have a positive impact on the Iraqi economy."
Iraq received $ 15.5 billion in sovereign loans through $ 1 billion in Kuwait, $ 5 billion in Turkey, $ 1 billion in Saudi Arabia, $ 1 billion in Qatar, $ 250 million in the UAE, $ 1.5 billion in the Arab Social Fund, Of development, $ 260 million Italy, and $ 6 billion World Bank).
The Iraqi government also obtained non-sovereign loans, financing and project guarantees of $ 11.61 billion, through $ 1 billion Kuwait, 0.5 reconstruction exports from Saudi Arabia, $ 5,200 billion, $ 210 million, United Kingdom, $ 3.5 billion, and 1.2 billion US dollars).
The Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq was launched on Monday, 12 February 2018, and concluded on Wednesday 14 February.[/ltr]
