    Information / Baghdad ..
Kuwait and the Philippines signed an agreement that regulates some conditions for the employment of Filipino domestic workers in Kuwait, which would solve the ongoing crisis between the two countries two months ago.
The agreement was signed in Manila last Friday between a Kuwaiti delegation and representatives of the Philippine authorities.
She added that during the talks between the two sides the importance of opening the way for Kuwaiti recruitment offices to bring Filipino workers.
For his part, Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs Sami Al-Hamad, said that the agreement is in the interest of both parties.
Al-Hamd quoted the two sides as confirming that the employer did not keep the home worker's passport and not transfer the sponsorship, ie transferring the worker to another employer, except with the consent of the domestic worker.
The agreement would end a crisis sparked by reports of the suicide of a number of Filipinos due to mistreatment of Kuwaiti employers.
The Philippines stopped sending workers to Kuwait in January after the body of a Filipino migrant worker was found inside a refrigerator, in what Manila said was the latest in a series of abuse incidents in the Gulf states.
Workers work in most of the Gulf states in accordance with the sponsorship system, which gives the employer the right to retain a worker's passport and to have full control over the issue of residence within the country.
Rights groups say the system makes millions of workers in the Gulf region vulnerable to exploitation.
According to statistics from the Philippine Foreign Ministry, more than 250,000 Filipinos work in Kuwait, most of them in the area of domestic labor. There are also a large number in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar
